As a Regulatory Compliance Partner supporting our Irving Oil Sales and Marketing (SMO) division, you will work closely with the Manager of Environment, Health and Safety, Regulatory Compliance to manage, maintain, and deliver regulatory compliance activities across the business. You will interpret and apply federal and provincial regulations, support consultation processes, and guide business units in understanding and meeting jurisdictional requirements. Your goal will be to act as a strategic partner who strengthens corporate and business‑unit compliance programs by providing technical and regulatory expertise, developing and maintaining policies and standards, supporting compliance‑related training, and coordinating periodic compliance assessments across SMO operations. Your success will depend on your ability to clearly communicate regulatory requirements, build strong relationships through field engagement, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to enhance operational understanding, reduce compliance risk, and support continuous improvement in regulatory performance.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, interpret, and apply federal and provincial regulatory requirements across all jurisdictions where SMO operates

  • Lead internal regulatory consultation processes, providing technical and regulatory insights and supporting responses to external consultation requests

  • Develop, implement, and maintain regulatory compliance policies, standards, and supporting materials, including training and awareness resources

  • Collaborate with business units to interpret regulations and ensure operational procedures, plans, and reports meet jurisdictional requirements

  • Coordinate and conduct compliance assessments to verify adherence to regulatory requirements and internal controls, and recommend actions to reduce compliance risk

  • Support investigations and compliance program updates, including maintaining the Compliance Risk Register and analyzing compliance data to identify trends and future needs

 

Your Skills:   

  • Advanced ability to interpret, apply, and translate federal and provincial regulatory requirements into clear operational expectations for diverse business units

  • Strong analytical capabilities to evaluate regulatory data, identify compliance trends, and recommend proactive risk‑mitigation measures

  • Skilled in developing and maintaining regulatory policies, standards, training materials, and compliance‑related documentation

  • Effective collaborator with the ability to facilitate cross‑functional engagement during regulatory consultations, assessments, and policy development

  • Demonstrated capability to lead and coordinate compliance assessments, audits, and follow‑up actions to strengthen internal controls

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate regulatory obligations to technical and non‑technical audiences

Your Experience:   

  • 3–5 years of experience in regulatory compliance, preferably within energy, fuels, transportation, or other highly regulated industries

  • Experience interpreting and applying federal and provincial regulations within operational or field‑based environments

  • Background supporting or conducting compliance assessments, audits, or regulatory reporting processes

  • Post‑secondary education in Environmental Studies, Regulatory Compliance, Law, Health & Safety, or a related technical field

  • A legal background or professional compliance/safety designation would be considered an asset
