In-Office Only - Fulltime Position

Candidates must currently reside in the state of Maine. We are not considering out-of-state applicants for this position. 


BSA/AML: The BSA/AML Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering all aspects of the Bank Secrecy/Anti-Money Laundering Act compliance program. This includes oversight of the bank’s Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP), and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) compliance efforts. The BSA/AML Officer ensures that the bank’s policies, procedures, and practices remain compliant with all applicable laws and regulations while aligning with the Bank’s risk profile and community banking mission. Work with the staff to organize and analyze compliance materials and resources; to coordinate appropriate training, and to ensure that the Bank complies with all applicable OCC/FDIC/Federal Reserve and State Regulations. Serves as the Bank’s OFAC and Privacy Officer.


Fraud: Leads the Bank’s efforts to protect our customers, employees, and communities from fraud. This role oversees fraud detection, prevention, and investigation activities while working collaboratively across departments to ensure strong internal controls and responsive processes. With a hands-on approach, helps balance risk management with exceptional customer service, reflecting the values and personalized approach of a community bank.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred 
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant BSA/AML or compliance experience will be considered 
  • Professional certification such as Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of Bank Security Act (BSA), Customer Information Program (CIP) and Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC)
  • Experience with Verafin financial crime management software preferred
  • Knowledge of legal communication and remedies
  • Extensive consumer product knowledge 
  • Proven ability to effectively manage subordinate employees
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Able to apply a practical commonsense approach to difficult situations  


Duties:

BSA/ AML/OFAC

  • Maintain and administer the bank’s BSA/AML/OFAC compliance program in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and update BSA policies, procedures, and risk assessments to reflect changes in regulations, products, and services in conjunction with the Compliance Officer.
  • Monitor and report suspicious activity through the identification, investigation, and filing of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs).
  • Oversee the Customer Identification Program (CIP) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) processes, including Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) for higher-risk customers.
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring of accounts and transactions to identify unusual or suspicious activity.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal questions regarding BSA/AML compliance.
  • Coordinate and support independent BSA audits and regulatory examinations.
  • Prepare required reports and presentations for management and the Board.
  • Address audit and examination findings and oversee corrective action plans.
  • Review and analyze system alerts, rules, and parameters for ongoing effectiveness.
  • Work with the Compliance Officer and the bank’s Training and Education Manager to coordinate all BSA training and to ensure that training records are kept as required.  
  • For BSA audits and regulatory exams, orchestrate data/document collections, participate in exam preparation, communicate with auditors/examiners and keep management aware of issues. 

Fraud

  • With the Fraud Department, ensure that all fraud alerts through various third-party systems are reviewed and decisioned in a timely manner.
  • Provide fraud education to staff and community members. 
  • Work with internal stakeholders to follow up on fraud situations to prevent the Bank for monetary harm. 
  • Involve legal and law enforcement in fraud situations as needed. 
  • Stay abreast of fraud trends and participate in fraud training and MBA fraud calls. 
  • Manage the Fraud/Forgery GL account. 
  • Manage the fraud mitigation efforts surrounding electronic services, including ATM/DEBIT card fraud.

Staff Management

  • Provide leadership of assigned personnel through:
  • Performance evaluation, counseling, and coaching.
  • Establishing, coordinating, implementing and achieving individual empirical goals (IEGs) and Project or Administrative Goals (PAGs)
  • Development and implementation of training strategies to increase employee skills and job proficiency in conjunction with Human Resources; and
  • Development and coordination of staffing and retention plans
  • Assume Other Duties as Assigned. 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Primarily a sedentary position but must have the ability to move to all operational areas under the position’s supervision. Must have the ability to read/see documents and PC screens, to use a PC extensively, and to communicate with all employees supervised.
