OVERVIEW
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager with a strong background in delivering large-scale initiatives within major financial institutions. The successful candidate will lead complex, cross-functional projects within the T&O line of business, ensuring alignment between strategic objectives and execution across business, operations, and technology teams.
This role is ideal for a highly organized, results-driven professional who thrives in structured environments and is experienced managing enterprise-scale programs involving multiple stakeholders, governance forums, and regulatory considerations. Experience within banking environments and exposure to AML or data-driven initiatives is highly desirable.
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid – 2 days per week onsite at various Toronto locations including BMO Place, First Canadian Place, or Scarborough office; no set days)
Contract Length: ASAP – October 31, 2026 (Extension Possible)
Hours: Standard business hours (EST)
Pay: T4: $87 / Incorporated: $100
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct large-scale, complex projects involving multiple internal business units, corporate partners, IT teams, and external vendors.
- Define, plan, orchestrate, and deliver assigned strategic initiatives, ensuring all business, operational, and technology deliverables are met.
- Manage the full project lifecycle, including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, control, and transition to business/operations, while ensuring adherence to enterprise governance standards.
- Build and sustain strong day-to-day relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including executive leadership, providing clear and concise project briefings and updates.
- Ensure project outcomes are delivered with clearly articulated scope, measurable business benefits, and strong alignment to enterprise strategy.
- Maintain clear linkage between business vision and project objectives, ensuring traceability from requirements through execution.
- Chair core team meetings and governance forums (e.g., Steering Committees, Operating Committees, Decision Forums) to review status, risks, and decisions.
- Represent the project or program across governance and inter-departmental forums, ensuring visibility and alignment.
- Rigorously manage scope, timeline, budget, and quality to ensure commitments are delivered within agreed parameters.
- Define and track milestones while developing and maintaining an integrated project delivery plan using MS Project.
- Develop and maintain key project artifacts including project charter, integrated plan, resource plan, financial forecast, contingency plan, risk logs, and status reporting in compliance with enterprise standards (Project Management, Risk, Audit, Compliance).
- Monitor and control financials with strong forecast accuracy and proactive variance management.
- Proactively identify risks, issues, and dependencies, escalating appropriately when required.
- Manage vendor and supplier relationships to ensure contractual and delivery obligations are met.
- Oversee requirements design, coordination of development activities, testing phases, and transition to production.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of enterprise project management best practices to drive consistency, transparency, and execution excellence.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 8+ years of progressive project management experience within major financial institutions.
- Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-scale initiatives within banking environments.
- Strong understanding of Waterfall project lifecycle phases and governance frameworks.
- Experience managing project financials, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Proven ability to work effectively within program or portfolio structures and collaborate with Program/Portfolio Managers.
- Hands-on experience using MS Project to manage integrated delivery plans.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and determine appropriate escalation paths.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders and executive leadership.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams including business, operations, and technology partners.
Preferred
- AML (Anti-Money Laundering) project experience.
- Experience with big data, customer information, or enterprise data initiatives.
- Prior experience at BMO or similar large Canadian financial institutions.
- Strong familiarity with enterprise governance, risk, and compliance frameworks.
- Education
Post-secondary degree in Business, Finance, Information Systems, or related discipline.
- PMP or equivalent project management certification is considered an asset.
