DescriptionBASIC FUNCTION SUMMARY:
The AML/CFT/Fraud Investigator is responsible for conducting comprehensive investigations of suspicious or unusual financial activity and managing ongoing monitoring and review of high-risk customer relationships in accordance with applicable AML/CFT, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), USA PATRIOT Act, and related regulatory requirements. The position independently evaluates transactional activity, customer risk, and supporting documentation; conducts Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD); and applies risk-based judgment to develop and document well-supported investigative conclusions, including recommendations regarding escalation and Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) filings. The Investigator works collaboratively with the AML/CFT/OFAC Officer, Compliance staff, branch personnel, Bank management, and other internal stakeholders and may communicate with law enforcement, other financial institutions, and state or federal agencies as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Duties, Skills, Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Conduct comprehensive AML/CFT and financial crime investigations involving unusual or suspicious customer activity, analyzing transaction history, customer relationships, account activity, supporting documentation, external research, and other available information to identify patterns, anomalies, potential financial crime concerns, and regulatory risk.
- Exercise independent, risk-based investigative judgment to evaluate findings within the broader context of the customer relationship and determine whether activity is reasonably explained or requires additional investigation, due diligence, escalation, continued monitoring, or consideration of a Suspicious Activity Report (SAR). Clearly articulate and document the facts, analysis, and rationale supporting investigative conclusions and recommended filing decisions.
- Manage an assigned portfolio of High-Risk Customers, completing periodic reviews in accordance with established procedures and schedules while evaluating changes in customer activity, ownership, business operations, transaction patterns, geography, products or services, and other risk factors that may warrant additional scrutiny or escalation.
- Independently identify and perform Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) when warranted, determining the information and supporting documentation necessary to appropriately evaluate customer risk. Coordinate and analyze required information and determine when additional measures, including expanded transaction analysis, internal consultation, supporting documentation, or on-site customer visits are appropriate
- Maintain thorough, accurate, and regulator-ready investigative case documentation, including clear investigative summaries and SAR narratives that identify the activity reviewed, investigative steps performed, evidence considered, findings reached, and rationale supporting case disposition. Ensure records sufficiently support internal review, audit, examination, and regulatory inquiry.
- Manage multiple concurrent investigations, High-Risk Customer reviews, follow-up activities, and regulatory deadlines, independently prioritizing work, identifying outstanding information, recognizing emerging concerns, and driving cases to appropriate and timely resolution without compromising investigative quality or documentation standards.
- Identify and appropriately escalate material financial crime and compliance concerns, providing the AML/CFT/OFAC Officer and Bank leadership with well-reasoned recommendations supported by investigative findings. Serve as an experienced investigative partner to branch personnel, Operations, Compliance, and management in obtaining information, evaluating concerns, and supporting appropriate risk-based decisions.
- Undertake additional tasks assigned to support departmental functions.
- Must comply with all bank policies and procedures that are job related and/or consistent with business necessity.
QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Working knowledge of BSA, USA PATRIOT Act, AML/CFT, EDD, OFAC and related regulatory requirements
- High-level professionalism and ability to maintain customer confidentiality.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand banking regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Interpersonal skills including courtesy, tact, and diplomacy as giving and obtaining information may require discussion of a sensitive or personal nature.
Required Education & Training:
- High School Diploma
- Minimum one-year BSA department/role experience
- Three (3) years in a banking role
Preferred Education & Training:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or Criminal Justice
- CAMS or CAFP Certification
- Verafin Anti-Money Laundering software experience
