Reporting to the Senior Vice-President, Retail Risk Analytics & Credit Decisioning, the Vice-President of Retail Risk Controls and Oversight (VP) leads a 2nd Line of Defense function responsible for developing programs and methods that ensure compliance to lending policy and regulatory credit risk requirements for Retail Estate Secured Lending (RESL) and other retail products. This includes responding to regulatory and governance inquiries, overseeing adherence to regulatory requirements and providing effective challenge to processes and activities. The VP is also accountable for overseeing the development of quality assurance programs, exception monitoring systems, reporting on issues, emerging risks, trends, and insights, and making recommendations to increase awareness and mitigate risks within their oversight scope.

What You’ll be Doing
Develop and maintain an effective regulatory compliance oversight function. Provide leadership and strategic direction in risk governance and controls assessments.
Identify applicable regulatory requirements and monitor changes and compliance to requirements.
Conduct risk assessments of regulatory requirements.
Assess and challenge the design and operating effectiveness of 1st and 2nd line of defense controls to ensure compliance.
Provide advisement to regulatory compliance risk through change management process.
Establish and execute methods to escalate issues to appropriate stakeholders and monitor remediation.
Lead credit process assessment and challenge. Sponsor development of Quality Assurance programs and targeted reviews that evaluate the effectiveness of credit processes to ensure CIBC operates within its risk appetite.
Oversee a robust quality assurance program to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and credit policies, including lending due diligence and credit decisioning accuracy.
Lead the team to develop product specific programs to evaluate processes and controls to validate the integrity of credit processes and readiness for emerging risks.
Asses credit processes end-to-end encompassing 1st and 2nd line activities across the enterprise.
Develop a risk-based approach to sample credit processes across the life-cycle.
Policy and process oversight. Oversee credit policies to validate alignment with enterprise policies and frameworks and ensure alignment with risk appetite.
Lead development and management of communications for our regulator encompassing controls and risk appetite for retail products. Sponsor development of systems that enable proactive response to regulatory concerns.
Lead coordination and develop robust processes to manage internal, external and regulatory audits.
Provide leadership and effective management of staff to influence employee commitment to the organization, to the team, and to their job.
What We’re Looking For
Knowledge of CIBC’s personal lending and small business banking products especially RESL products and services, policy and procedures, and business culture to relate regulatory needs to specific product and delivery channel needs.
Knowledge of the markets and regulatory compliance practices in which CIBC operates in order to link CIBC practices to those of the market place.
Knowledge of business ethical practices and professional judgment in assessing conflicts of interest.
Sound professional judgment in handling complex and/or highly confidential matters.
Leadership and people skills to manage a diverse group of professionals.
Influential skills sufficient to shape the decision making process by business/infrastructure leaders in understanding regulatory/reputational risks and control/compliance implications. Influential skills also in helping regulators understanding business processes for regulatory compliance.
Capability to oversee a variety of projects including establishing objectives, defining deliverables, overseeing execution and balancing priorities.
