About the work environment:  

Peoples Group offers a flexible and hybrid work environment. In this role you will work a combination of in-office and remotely from home. Typically, you'll be working regular business hours, Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 5:00pm with flexibility around start/end times.

 We are hiring for this position out of our Toronto office. Successful candidates who apply outside of this area will be expected to relocate and reside in a location that is within a commutable distance.

About you: 

As the Senior Vice President of Treasury and Capital Markets, you will bring a wealth of experience and a forward-thinking mindset to the evolving landscape of treasury. You have a proven track record of leadership in treasury, financial strategy, and capital management. You are a results-oriented individual with deep expertise in overseeing the core functions of a financial institution treasury (cash management, liquidity and market risk management, governance and policies), capital markets solutions (involving securitization, syndications, whole loan sales and risk transfers), and managing senior relationships with large and small banks, credit unions, trust companies and other non-bank financial institutions. You thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Your ability to balance strategic vision with operational execution has consistently driven growth and optimized financial performance across complex organizations. You are known for your ability to anticipate market trends, proactively address financial challenges, and actively implement forward-looking solutions that align with organizational goals.

About the role:

The SVP Treasury and Capital Markets plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of our financial operations. This position reports directly to Peoples Groups’ Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for overseeing and optimizing our treasury and capital markets function, while supporting financial innovation across the organization. You will lead the development and implementation of strategic financial solutions, leveraging emerging technologies and market trends to enhance the institution’s financial operations and competitiveness.

You will be instrumental in managing the institution’s financial health, driving operational efficiencies, and identifying new opportunities for growth. As a key member of the leadership team, you will work closely with internal stakeholders, external partners, and regulatory bodies to ensure that our financial strategies align with both short-term goals and long-term objectives.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of financial markets, advanced treasury management, and emerging financial technologies. You will be a visionary leader with the ability to navigate complex financial challenges, while fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration across the treasury and financial functions.

About the day to day:

Liquidity Risk Management and Funding Strategy

  • Develop liquidity risk management policies
  • Oversee liquidity positions, including stress testing and mitigation strategies
  • Manage a portfolio of High-Quality Liquid Investments (primarily cash) to ensure Peoples can meet its financial obligations
  • Develop and implement funding strategies to support Peoples Groups’ growth and operational needs
  • Structure, negotiate and maintain wholesale funding lines from other institutions
  • Monitor market conditions and regulatory changes to adjust liquidity management and funding strategies accordingly

Market Risk and Interest Rate Risk Management

  • Develop and implement market and interest rate risk management policies
  • Oversee Peoples Groups’ hedge positions to ensure it meets all internal and external requirements, including managing the associated collateral positions

Funds Transfer Pricing

  • Maintain and enhance current funds transfer pricing (FTP) framework to ensure transparent signaling of risk-immunized marginal cost of funds to Peoples’ products
  • Collaborate on product pricing/hedging to ensure product margins are immunized from changes in external interest rate environment

Capital Markets

  • Own Peoples’ participation in Canada Mortgage & Housing Corporation (CMHC) securitization programs for both single family and multi-family mortgages, including pricing/hedging, funding and reporting
  • Manage the Group’s whole loan sale (WLS) and syndications programs to the small bank, credit union and trust company eco systems, including structuring (to achieve accounting de-recognition), negotiations, pricing and reporting
  • Support the annual external credit ratings process
  • Participate in any business acquisition/divestiture/discontinuation activities and new product launches

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and mentor the treasury team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
  • Provide training and development opportunities to enhance the skills and knowledge of team members
  • Set performance goals and conduct regular performance evaluations
  • Encourage collaboration and open communication within the team to drive innovation and efficiency
  • Recognize and reward outstanding performance, promoting a positive and motivating work environment
  • Develop succession plans to ensure continuity and stability within the treasury department.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and incorporate them into team processes and workflows

About the qualifications:  

  • Minimum of 20 years of experience in treasury or a related financial role
  • Strong knowledge of financial markets, instruments, and regulatory requirements
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as Basel III and IFRS
  • Master’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (Professional certification such as CFA, FRM, CPA, or CTP) preferred
