What you’ll be doing
Risk Management is led by the SEVP and Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and is accountable on matters relating to the independent oversight of the management of risks inherent to the activities of CIBC, its subsidiaries and affiliates. These risks include but are not limited to ensuring that effective processes are in place for the identification, management, measurement, monitoring and control of operational, reputation and legal, market, credit, strategic, investment and liquidity risk, collectively “CIBC Risk”, incurred by CIBC’s retail and wholesale businesses, infrastructure and corporate governance groups.
Model Validation is a second line of defense and the mandate is to proactively protect CIBC against major financial loss or exposure due to model risk. Model Validation provides independent, effective challenge, whereby analytic models, numerical computations and techniques applicable to sufficiently complex bank-wide analytics, are reviewed and approved on behalf of Risk Management.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Model Governance and Operational Risk, the Senior Manager will work closely with the Senior Director to develop and maintain an enterprise‑wide AI/ML model risk and governance framework. You will collaborate across CIBC to ensure the framework is practical, risk‑based, compliant with regulatory expectations, and integrated with existing model risk management and AI governance policies and processes. You will serve as the primary point of contact for AI model governance within Model Validation and drive consistent standards, controls, and reporting across the bank. In addition, you will establish metrics and dashboards for senior leadership, lead training and enablement for validators and developers, and continuously improve tooling and processes to enhance control effectiveness and align with CIBC’s risk appetite.
At CIBC, we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.
How you’ll succeed
Relationship Management – A key attribute you will have will be your ability to effectively interact and build relationships internally and externally to Model Validation. You will partner with the Enterprise AI Governance Office, model validators, model developers, US and regional model risk teams, and Internal Audit to drive adoption and consistency.
Research and External Intelligence - Conduct research on regulatory expectations and industry‑leading practices related to AI/ML model risk and governance. Stay abreast of peer practices through formal and informal networks and external forums. Translate insights into actionable guidance and requirements; ensure the proposed framework meets or exceeds regulatory expectations and is aligned with and adaptable to CIBC’s existing policies, standards, and procedures.
Governance, Reporting and Analytics – Execute model governance activities such as inventory management, regulatory compliance linkage, deficiency tracking, and reporting. Use data to identify themes, trends, and areas requiring remediation.
Creative Thinking – You will think differently, see opportunities where challenges and efficiency opportunities appear to exist, and propose and implement creative solutions.
Project Management – You will provide rigor and structure around the scheduling and organizing of the work that we do. Where required, you will assist in managing applicable actions plans and associated due dates.
