Salary: Range 51 - $39.81 (step one) - $50.47 (step ten)
  
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, our core business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; an alternative work schedule is subject to supervisor’s approval. 

Work Location: In person/telecommuting hybrid: King County Courthouse, Seattle. 

The Economic Crimes and Wage Theft Division is comprised of three units: Economic Crimes; Complex Financial Crimes and Wage Theft; and Elder Abuse, Exploitation and Neglect. DPAs, paralegals, and investigators work collaboratively on matters such as identity theft, embezzlement, organized retail theft, crimes against vulnerable adults and the prosecution of highly prolific car thieves and burglars, along with other crimes that economically affect the people and businesses of King County.

Job Duties

  • Prepare, generate, process, and coordinate service of legal documents, including subpoenas.
  • Maintain case management system (Prosecutor by Karpel – PFBC) to reflect updated witness information, court dates, discovery dissemination, trial and disposition information, and any other important information that needs to be documented.
  • Manage discovery: Organize, index, scan, Bates stamp, redact, and prepare voluminous amounts of materials for dissemination that are received in various hard and electronic formats. 
  • Prepare Subpoenas Duces Tecum and Special Inquiry Judge documents, including managing the documents received.
  • Assist detectives and prosecutors with processing search warrants according to PAO policy.
  • Assist prosecutors in all phases of trial preparation.
  • Create trial exhibits, redact video and audio recordings, and request and monitor transcript requests. 
  • Serve as a liaison with deputy prosecutors, victim advocates, interpreters, law enforcement officers, defense attorneys, defense investigators, court personnel, witnesses, victims, and other partner agencies.
  • Notify/inform victims, witnesses, and law enforcement of case status; coordinate witness testimony; review and interpret legal documents and explain legal procedures; schedule interviews with attorneys and witnesses; and arrange travel and lodging accommodations for witnesses as needed.
  • Request interpreters or translation services as needed.
  • Provide support for the Race, Equity and Social Justice policy and principles, work with PAO colleagues and management to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Other responsibilities may be added or changed as business needs evolve.

  • Must possess excellent organizational skills, have a high attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service in communications with people of diverse backgrounds, including victims, witnesses, law enforcement, and the public in a tactful, diplomatic, patient, and professional manner.
  • Must be receptive to instructions, feedback, and coaching.  
  • Ability to use independent judgment, exercise initiative, anticipate needs, and respond appropriately.
  • Demonstrate strong discernment skills in using discretion when working with confidential information.  
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills to make decisions and initiate action.
  • Proven time management skills to effectively and accurately handle multiple tasks within short deadlines.
  • Desire and aptitude to learn new concepts, programs, and software on the job.
  • Knowledge of legal office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, OneNote, OneDrive), Adobe Pro; familiarity with Prosecutor by Karpel (PbK), KC Script, JABS, SAW/FORS, JBRS, PeopleMap/Accurint and other criminal justice programs is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the legal system; possession of paralegal skills, knowledge of legal terminology and application of laws, rules, and regulations, specifically in the criminal justice system.
  • Any combination of experience/education/training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.  
  • Be receptive to instructions, feedback, and coaching.  
  • Must have demonstrated predictable, reliable, and timely attendance.  
  • Active participation in PAO equity work, attending equity trainings and discussions.

Application Process:

PAO employees who are represented by Teamsters Local No. 117 will receive priority consideration. There exists a broken rung in many organizations that can make attaining formal positions challenging to historically excluded groups.  We are not requesting a detailed expression of interest, as we prefer to keep barriers for applying low and will look forward to hearing about experience and aspirations for the role during the interview process.


Selection Process

Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, qualified bargaining unit members will be invited to participate in a panel interview process. 


*Employees with less than 2 years of service will receive .25 per hour less than the hourly salary table due to a mandatory contribution toward the Teamsters Pension Trust that was voted by members of TeamstersLocal No. 117.
