What this role is all about:

The Manager, Regulatory Compliance will play a pivotal role in supporting Beem Credit Union’s continued growth by ensuring full adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards. This position is accountable for executing key elements of the Credit Union’s regulatory framework and compliance program. Joining at a foundational stage, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the function, influence organizational perspectives, and leave a lasting impact. This role is ideal for someone who is motivated to shift the perception of compliance from being viewed as a barrier to being recognized as a strategic enabler that supports opportunity and responsible growth.

What you’ll do:

Leadership:

  • Participates as an active member of the Leadership Team by contributing to the corporate strategy developments, adding value from a regulatory compliance and risk perspective while maintaining an enterprise-wire operational view.
  • Executes long term business plans considering complex internal and external factors, including emerging requirements and organizational interdependencies.
  • Communicates department strategies and objectives, ensuring understanding and alignment with business and partner teams.
  • Builds and develops a high-performing, collaborative team that is viewed as leaders by their peers, demonstrates an agile mindset, and drives effective prioritization, stakeholder alignment and cross-functional delivery.
  • Conducts ongoing training, coaching and feedback with employees through regular meetings and performance development.

Program Development:

  • Creates, implements and maintains a comprehensive regulatory compliance program and framework, ensuring the organization complies with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manages the regulatory compliance policy governance program including design processes for effective annual review.
  • Oversees the regulatory compliance policy change management with a focus on assessing and describing the impacts of legislative changes on Credit Union products and operations to stakeholders
  • Conducts research and stays informed about any changes in laws, regulations, industry standards and best practices, and emerging products and technologies to ensure the organization’s compliance programs are updated accordingly.
  • Oversees, develops and drives employee learning and training content relevant to credit union regulations and compliance procedures.
  • Identifies and recommends opportunities to improve and streamline program content and departmental processes through digital enhancements.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, including legal counsel and regulatory bodies, to ensure regulatory compliance program is robust and effective.

Reporting and Compliance:

  • Conducts proactive reporting for senior leadership teams on the organization’s compliance status and potential risks and issues.
  • Ensures products and services meet regulatory standards, including technical documentation and post-market activities.
  • Leads activities for creating and maintaining accurate records of compliance activities.
  • Oversees preparation, valuation and submission of the Credit Union’s annual FATCA and CRS reporting.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams across the organization to ensure consistency and alignment with business and strategic objectives.
  • Maintains strong collaborative relationships with external partners, agencies, and vendors to ensure the successful execution of initiatives.
  • Participates in internal committees and working groups to address gaps in regulatory compliance.

What you will bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in a compliance-related role, including strong leadership experience
  • Post-secondary degree in business or a related discipline is an asset
  • In-depth understanding of regulatory compliance relating to a complex financial institution
  • Strong knowledge and understand of industry standards and best practices relevant to Canadian credit unions
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including data science, AML, Risk, and Product
  • Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions to complex control, financial and technical issues
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop creative solutions for a variety of emerging organizational and industry challenges

Compensation, Performance & recognition

Annual salary range: $92,000 - $115,000

Pay is based on your skills, experience, and the value you bring, with annual salary reviews. We recognize strong performance through meaningful recognition and, where applicable, performance bonuses tied to shared goals.
