POSITION: Manager, Corporate Finance

Reporting to the Managing Director, Finance & Controller, the Manager, Corporate Finance is responsible for supporting the accounting operations, financial reporting and forecasting of the company, including, vendor management and related payables processing, journal entry review and approval, bank reconciliation review and the preparation of monthly financial statements. The successful candidate will work closely with the broader Corporate Finance team and other stakeholders to ensure complete and accurate financial reporting as well as implement internal controls and processes that are scalable to support the company’s growth.  


Accountabilities include:

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable and general ledger.
  • Manage, develop and coach the accounts payable Team (which includes two direct reports).
  • Manage accounts payable operations including employee expense management (ChromeRiver) and vendor invoice processing systems (ProcessMaker),vendor management,review and approve all of AP payment batches on a timely basis. Ensure timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices and payments.
  • Collaborate with broader corporate finance team to manage fund recovery expense process
  • Financial controls: carefully analyze and reconcile each entity within Northleaf, to ensure accuracy of amounts and booked into appropriate accounts. Review and approve GL and bank journal entries.  
  • Financial statements: preparation of consolidated and non-consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP applicable to the jurisdiction in which Northleaf operates. 
  • Review financial reports for regulatory reporting. Coordinate with auditors to manage audit timings and provide required documentation.
  • Collaborate with team to develop and implement accounts payable and accounting policies and procedures, including system and process transformation of A/P process, review of accrual and forecasting processes.
  • Finance contact to department heads related to expenses, both actual reporting and work with FP&A team on expense forecasting.
  • Support corporate finance related projects as required

 

Qualifications

  • CPA, CA - Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics. 
  • Expertise with corporate general ledger systems including experience with the selection and implementation of new general ledger systems is an asset.
  • 5+ years of progressive combined accounting and finance experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity, preferably in the asset management and/or private markets investments industry.
  • Leadership: demonstrated team management and leadership skills honed from experience and an ability to build empathetic yet demanding relationships.
  • Strong financial reporting: GAAP applicable to public and private enterprises, including IFRS and ASPE standards.
  • Technical excellence with accounting software (Sage 300), with advanced MS Excel skills including VLOOKUP’s and pivot tables.
  • Confident working with structured data and analytical tools, including business intelligence applications such as Power BI.
  • Intellectually curious: seeking continuous learning opportunities in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Ability to take initiative: research and/or investigate issues requiring resolution; a demonstrated ability to adopt process and technology to add scale.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task: management of concurrent projects, and effective utilization of support from other Corporate Finance team members.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and manage tasks to completion within required timeframes.
  • Strong communication and management skills: can synthesize ideas, thought processes and able to clearly articulate to several different audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to effectively manage and leverage working relationships.
  • Highly analytical: ability to analyze and draw conclusions form large and/or complex data sources (both qualitative and quantitative data sets).
