Job Description

What is the opportunity?

This is a pivotal role where you will shape accounting and reporting for new financial systems and product implementations, ensuring senior management has the right metrics to proactively address business trends. With a broad scope spanning all business departments within Canadian Insurance, you will assess financial implications, identify potential risks to financial plans, and safeguard the company’s financial health. As the key finance advisor, you will also interpret management results and drive the development of strategic plans and forecasts, directly influencing the success of our business.

What will you do?

  • Prepare monthly financial advisory and performance management packages for the Canadian Life and Health insurance team.
  • Apply business and application knowledge to facilitate analysis across financial reporting applications.
  • Deep dive research into specific data flows for Canadian Life and Health insurance products/portfolios.
  • Build understanding and documentation for current state issues and develop draft action plans for future corrections/solutions.
  • Manage a variety of periodic and ad-hoc reports relating to actual, forecast and plan, including strategic initiatives.
  • Work with other members of the Canadian Insurance Finance team to streamline and improve the timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting, including use of new technology and processes.
  • Design, develop and implement complex product profitability metric reporting to track and analyze product performance.

What do you need to succeed?
Must-have

  • Minimum of 3 years of insurance industry or accounting firm experience in an accounting or finance role.
  • Strong understanding of the applications of IFRS 17.
  • Strong analytical skills and solid understanding of Insurance products.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in financial reporting tools (Excel VBA, EPM, TM1/Cognos, Peoplesoft, Tableau).

Nice-to-have

  • CPA or equivalent accounting designation.
  • Advanced knowledge of actuarial principles and practices, including actuarial liability development.
  • Experience with agile methodologies and collaborative team environments.
  • Familiarity with additional financial analytics systems.
