The program

CIBC is focused on developing and retaining top talent within the industry. The Global Investment Banking Advancement Program is one of our newest initiatives to connect post-secondary top talent to exciting CIBC career-building opportunities!

If you are a 2nd year undergraduate student from one or more groups traditionally under-represented in financial services, including people of colour, members of the Black Community, Indigenous peoples (i.e., First Nations, Inuit or Métis peoples), persons with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and/or women, the Investment Banking Summer Advancement Program will give you the opportunity to accelerate your career development over a two-year program.

The two-year Advancement Program is structured with the following components:

  • Mentorship and career development programming from November 2025 – April 2026. The program will consist of virtual monthly group learning sessions with senior leaders, as well as one-to-one mentoring with an Investment Banking team member. This is an opportunity for you to learn from and be mentored by members of the Global Investment Banking team and is not a paid work term.

  • Summer 2026 IB Analyst Internship comprising of the formal work term within the Global Investment banking team [May to August 2026; paid work term].

  • Upon successful completion of the Summer 2026 work term, join CIBC for a second Global Investment Banking Internship during Summer 2027 [May to August 2027; paid work term].

Through the Investment Banking Summer Advancement Program, you will also have the opportunity to:

  • Gain business knowledge and leadership skills through formal training and hands-on experience. 

  • Learn through program-only sessions with leaders from various areas of Capital Markets.

  • Build your professional network with direct support from leaders in Investment Banking through a formal mentorship program.

  • Successful completion of the full two-year program secures you advanced eligibility to future full-time Investment Banking opportunities.

What you’ll be doing

As a student on our Global Investment Banking team, you will be making a real difference to our clients by helping to provide customized financing and advisory solutions. With offices located in Canada, the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia, our Global Investment Banking group provides equity and debt underwriting as well as corporate finance advisory services to corporations and institutions through a number of industry and product groups. This is a great opportunity to be a part of a group of professionals ranging from Analysts to Managing Directors who are dedicated to advising clients.

CIBC Capital Markets Global Investment Banking group provides equity and debt underwriting as well as corporate finance advisory services to a broad range of public and private corporations.

You will be working in one of the following industry or product groups within Investment Banking:

  • Global Diversified Industries

  • Energy, Infrastructure and Transition

  • Financials & Private Capital

  • Real Estate

  • Equity Capital Markets

  • Mergers & Acquisitions

  • Technology & Innovation

Program eligibility

To qualify for this program, you must match the following criteria:

  • You are scheduled to complete your undergrad program no sooner than April 2028.

  • You identify as a member of the following communities: women, Black community, First Nations, Métis or Inuit, persons with disabilities, and/or LGBTQ+ community.

  • You are enrolled in an undergraduate degree in Commerce, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics or related at the time of the internship.

  • Location: Toronto. Please note all employees must work within their current jurisdiction and must reside within Canada. All CIBC Co-op positions require you to be based in Canada for the duration of the term.

  • Duration of development programming prior to work term: 6 months (November 2025 – April 2026)

  • Duration of Work Terms: 4 months (May 2026 – August 2026) plus 4 months (May 2027 – August 2027).

How you’ll succeed

  • Research and Analytics – Provide a broad range of analytical, research and presentation preparation support to the team.

  • Project Management  ̶  Assigned to a variety of transactions and advisory projects such as mergers & acquisitions, divestitures, equity and debt financings, strategic advisory/alternatives projects and full capital structure solution projects.

  • Relationship Management  ̶  Gain exposure to working with individuals from various groups across the firm and our team approach to executing coverage and financing assignments is designed to provide progressive on the job training.
