What you'll be doing

Reporting to Executive Director, Operational Governance and Regulatory Alignment, the Director, Regulatory Initiatives will lead Regulatory Initiatives on behalf of our Commercial Banking and Wealth Management (CBWM) and Global Asset Management (GAM) strategic business units.

You will lead teams by becoming the Regulatory Subject Matter Expert (SME), working collaboratively with our Legal and Compliance partners to challenge interpretation of regulations and develop a vision and roadmap to compliance with a focus on both our employee and client experience. You will excel in leading the vision and striking the right balance on adherence to regulatory requirements and helping our employees to deliver on our purpose of helping make our client’s ambitions a reality.  While this role does not include direct people management responsibilities, the Director will serve as a key advisor and subject matter expert, providing strategic guidance, direction, and support to cross-functional teams engaged in regulatory change initiatives. This role will lead a team of Full time and Contract Consultants who will work with the Project Delivery team, Compliance, and Legal partners to ensure successful implementation of regulatory changes by focusing on adhering to regulatory requirements in the context of how we serve our clients today, and tomorrow.  The Director, Regulatory Initiatives, is enthusiastic about introducing meaningful changes and developing creative solutions to support sustainment of regulatory compliance with a focus on our employee and client experience. They will provide leadership in developing the operating model for assessing upcoming regulatory change, provide thought leadership on the future state design and controls to build the vision to adherence, and manage ongoing sustainment and monitoring and simplify our approach in order to accelerate adherence to regulatory change across CBWM and GAM

How you'll succeed

  • Strategic Planning - Develop and deliver the strategic approach and roadmap to compliance for Regulatory Change Initiatives across CBWM and GAM in alignment to our strategic goals. Develop and manage relationships with executives and other leaders, providing Leadership, Advisory and consultation for our partners on upcoming and new regulatory changes. Develop the short-term and long-term roadmap aligned to the upcoming regulatory changes while recognizing connections between the various regulatory and strategic initiatives and managing the impact to our clients, frontline, and product teams.

  • Strategic Regulatory Initiatives - Manage and lead various project delivery teams to execute key Regulatory strategic initiatives, delivering on the Chief Administrative Office (CAO) goals across CBWM and GAM. Taking ownership of the Regulatory change impact and leading and supporting key projects and strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment to regulations and our strategic goals. Identify industry trends worldwide that may require enhancements to the implementation or sustainment strategy.

  • Process Enhancement - Provide analysis and enhancements of strategic processes to support implementation or sustainment approaches and tactics with a focus on simplification and automation where possible to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of ongoing adherence to regulations while supporting our partners across CBWM and GAM

Who you are

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance, Law, Economics, or related field (required). Master’s Degree (MBA, Master of Finance, or equivalent) or advanced degree in a relevant discipline (preferred).

  • You are a strong communicator, demonstrating well-developed presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal

  • You show strong knowledge of the Canadian financial services industry with a focus on Commercial Lending, Wealth Management, and Investment Management.

  • You have deep understanding of regulatory frameworks relevant to commercial banking, wealth management, and investment management. Experience interpreting and implementing complex regulatory requirements. Familiarity with compliance, legal, tax, and risk management concepts.

  • You’re a certified professional. You have current accreditation and good standing in Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), Certified Risk Professional (CRP), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Other relevant certifications in compliance, risk, or project management.

  • You show proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans and roadmaps for regulatory change. Ability to align regulatory initiatives with organizational goals and business strategies. Experience managing the interdependencies and impacts of multiple initiatives.

  • Your influence makes a difference . You have well-developed influential skills, sufficient to shape the decision-making process in situations that involve regulatory change and business solutions, and where others need to be convinced of the value of preferred options or alternatives working in a matrix-oriented management environment.
