The Director, RBC GAM Data Governance acts as the strategic guardian of data compliance and business enablement for RBC GAM. This Director-level role balances rigorous adherence to RBC’s enterprise Information Management Policy with the delivery of a pragmatic, value-driven data framework tailored to GAM’s Infrastructure, Investment, and Distribution teams. By harmonizing regulatory requirements with operational agility, the incumbent ensures robust data governance foundations while embedding controls seamlessly into business workflows. This role positions GAM to support emerging capabilities (e.g., AI) and drives measurable value through improved data quality, lineage, and regulatory reporting.

What will you do?

• Safeguard GAM’s data governance framework to ensure alignment with RBC Group standards and regulatory obligations.
• Uphold auditable, process-oriented governance policies and support data product implementation with robust quality controls.
• Provide reporting mechanisms to satisfy regulators, Internal Audit, and senior stakeholders.
• Serve as primary liaison for policy interpretation, leveraging RBC’s frameworks while adapting them for asset management contexts.
• Translate enterprise policies into actionable GAM-specific guidance, championing bureaucratic rigor where necessary.
• Lead preparation and response for internal/external audits related to data governance.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of governance frameworks, processes, and controls.
• Remediate gaps efficiently to sustain stakeholder confidence.
• Formalize existing data accountability within business lines, embedding controls into daily workflows.
• Address operational friction points through governance initiatives (e.g., enhancing client data accuracy).
• Manage and develop a global team of 6 professionals, fostering commercial acumen and stakeholder management skills.
• Guide data governance frameworks to support emerging AI initiatives and technological shifts.

What do you need to succeed?

Several of the following:

• Significant experience in data governance/management.
• Experience within financial services, preferably asset management.
• Proven experience managing regulatory compliance and audit processes.
• Track record of implementing balanced governance frameworks.
• Managerial experience in talent development and diverse workstream leadership.
• Advanced understanding of asset management regulations and data governance principles.

Nice to Have

• Certifications (e.g., CDMP) and familiarity with data architecture tools.
