What is the opportunity?

Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR) provides risk oversight of RBC’s trading activities including (but not limited to) counterparty exposure measurement and monitoring, bespoke transaction adjudication and approval, portfolio risk analysis and reporting. We are building a team that embraces innovation and enthusiasm to bring a fresh perspective on building tools to manage Risk.

We’ve been on a journey to build out high performing, highly resilient, real time risk platforms that can grow with the continuous demands on Wholesale & Counterparty Credit Risk, and support RBC’s Business goals. 

We’re looking for a talented and passionate Director of Software Development to join our team. As a leader with an engineering mindset you will work in a truly agile team embedded within the business to deliver high performing tools that leverage the latest in technology and AI capabilities.

What will you do?

  • Lead development of risk measurement, monitoring, and reporting tools that support Wholesale & Counterparty Credit Risk

  • Build and mentor a high-performing team of software engineers and risk managers to elevate both technical and domain expertise

  • Translate complex risk requirements into scalable, automated solutions; partner with risk managers on portfolio analytics and approval workflows

  • Architect cloud-based platforms leveraging AI/ML for enhanced risk detection, scenario analysis, and real-time monitoring

  • Optimize development pipeline efficiency through CI/CD automation and modern DevOps practices

  • Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies that enhance risk management capabilities and reduce operational risk

What do you need to succeed?
 

Must Have

  • 2+ years of experience in a team lead or manager capacity

  • Strong programming background in Python, Strong knowledge of SQL, familiarity of JavaScript/Typescript

  • Familiarity with generative AI tools and demonstrated ability to apply them to technical & business problems

  • Understanding of financial services architecture, risk frameworks, and regulatory requirements (OR strong ability to learn rapidly)

Nice to Have

  • Background or experience in finance and/or risk management

  • Experience in designing, writing and building microservice architecture based applications

  • Business knowledge of Wholesale & Counterparty Credit Risk

  • Demonstrated thought leadership in the technical space
