AML QA Analyst

Location: Toronto, ON

Onsite Flexibility: Hybrid – 2 days per week, subject to change

Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 1 year (12 months), with potential for extension; conversion to permanent possible depending on volumes
  • Pay Rate: C$40.00–C$50.00 / Hour (CAD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST; overtime if required based on business requirements
  • Travel Requirements: Not required

Job Summary

This role sits within the TD Global AML department, which is accountable for establishing TD's Global Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing Program (AML/ATF) to ensure that all TD businesses adhere with AML/ATF regulatory expectations in all jurisdictions where TD operates. This includes setting consistent standards across business segments that may be further tailored to specific business or jurisdictional requirements; conducting annual enterprise-wide AML risk assessments; maintaining the Global AML Policy (including Know Your Customer and Enhanced Due Diligence, record keeping & retention requirements); currency transaction and suspicious transaction monitoring and reporting; screening TD customers against regulatory watch lists; a hierarchy of designated AML officer functions; enterprise-wide and specialized AML training of employees; and independent AML testing. In the FIU, the team conducts detection, investigation, and reporting for the money laundering program.

The position is a QA – Detection / Core Work Stream role focused on AML Operations Quality Assurance. The team culture is primarily independent work, with collaboration across teams to calibrate quality assurance results and findings. The team is growing and may offer future full-time opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

SHAREHOLDER

  • Perform quality assurance reviews across a broad range of money laundering investigation activities in support of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Anti-Terrorist Financing (ATF) requirements designed to detect and report financial crimes
  • Evaluate ML/TF risk by conducting quality checks on cases/alerts as part of the controls of TD's AML and ATF program
  • Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts
  • Evaluate potentially suspicious account activity; recognize and evaluate accounts and activity and effectively document recommendations regarding account retention and/or regulatory reporting obligations
  • Provide trend analysis of AML/ATF findings and gaps to Management for review
  • Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite
  • Manage ambiguity and apply judgement to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve ongoing business and operational issues
  • Assist the QA function with developing, drafting, and maintaining written policies, procedures, programs, and frameworks to minimize compliance breaches and monitor adherence to applicable regulatory requirements
  • Prioritize and manage own workload to meet SLA requirements for service and productivity
  • Represent as a project lead on projects / initiatives and/or at meetings across the organization
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in a quality control function and serve as knowledge and process expert to others
  • Effectively work independently with minimal supervision within a team environment to complete a common goal and prioritize daily workload to meet department objectives
  • Adhere to the team policy and procedures to ensure that work is properly documented
  • Ability to lead and positively influence others
  • Contribute to the success of the team by willingly assisting others in the completion and performance of work activities
  • Perform additional duties and participate in special projects as required

  • Protect the interests of the organization; identify and manage risks, and escalate non-standard, high-risk transactions / activities as necessary
  • Comply with applicable internal and external audit and regulatory requirements and may actively participate in Audit Reviews, providing recommendations and guidance as required

CUSTOMER

  • Support the business internally as a specialist of a given area in AML/ATF, Sanctions/ABAC matters
  • Conduct sound investigations and provide AML/ATF, Sanctions/ABAC support and recommendations on AML/BSA, Sanctions, and ABAC investigations

Required Skills

  • At least 5 years of experience in AML investigations and STR filing
  • Strong Suspicious Transaction Report (STR) filing and writing experience
  • Understanding of related regulations, including the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA)
  • Experience assessing a wide variety of ML/TF risks across multiple customer and product types, with the ability to clearly articulate risks and findings in a recommendation summary
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to professionally manage questions and concerns escalated by partners
  • Strong technical and computer skills, including the ability to use searchable databases and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment when making decisions
  • Ability to analyze, research, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion
  • Tech-savvy, with the ability to quickly learn internal systems and processes
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple complex cases simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Excellent team player who is versatile and adaptable to new situations and opportunities based on business needs

Preferred Skills

  • AML QC/QA experience
  • Prior knowledge of TD processes and systems

Education Requirements

  • A university or college degree is required
  • ACAMS certification is preferred

Required Experience

  • 8 years of experience in the banking industry and/or an AML or financial-crimes-related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in AML investigations and STR filing

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Training period: 100% in office during the first month
  • Hybrid schedule: 2 days per week on-site, subject to change
  • Time spent in meetings: 2–3 hours weekly
  • Primary interactions: Internal stakeholders
  • Access to customer data: Yes
