2027 Summer Intern Opportunities - Personal & Commercial Operations (PCO)

Role Title: Summer Intern - Personal & Commercial Operations (PCO)

Location: Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, or Remote, depending on placement

Term: 4-month Student Placement (May-August 2027)

Please note:

  • This is a primarily in-person role. Remote-only arrangements may be available for select positions based on team and business needs.
  • Specific placement details, including team, assignment, and work location, will be communicated closer to April 2027.
  • To be eligible for these student positions, you must either:
    • Be returning back to school after the work term end-date; or
    • If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating immediately after the work term), you must require the full work term as a mandatory component to graduate successfully.

PCO enables operations across RBC in Canada. Our student placements offer hands-on experience and meaningful work while contributing to initiatives that improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and enhance client experience.

Summer 2027 opportunities may include Centre or National Office placements across Personal & Commercial Operations. Specific placement details, including team, manager, assignment, and work location, will be communicated closer to May 2027.

Potential Placements:

Depending on your placement, you may have the opportunity to work within one of the following areas:

  • Personal Banking Operations (PBO) Centre role(s) manage end-to-end retail product operations across banking, lending, mortgages, investments, and loyalty products to support personalized client experiences and branch operations. Potential placements may include Automotive Finance Fulfillment, Personal Banking & Investments, Home Equity Closing Center, Mortgage Operations, Lending Maintenance, Cards & Loyalty Operations, and National Operations Effectiveness.
  • Commercial Banking Operations (CBO) Centre role(s) provide end-to-end support for business lending and non-lending products including operating lines, term loans, mortgages, commercial cards, and cash management services. Potential placements may include CSBFL (Canada Small Business Financing Loan) Advance, Liability Team, Queue Manager, Commercial Documentation Preparation, Small Business Advance, Term Loans Team, Commercial Servicing Advisors, and Operations & Resolutions – SSG(Sales & Service Group).
  • National Office - Non-Technical role(s) provide exposure to operations, process improvement, risk management, strategic initiatives and client service support across PCO. Potential placements may include Personal Banking Operations, Commercial Banking Operations, Credit and Fraud Management, Operational Risk, Operational Effectiveness, Operational Data, Information and AI, and Operations Strategy and Business Management.
  • National Office - Technical role(s) provide hands-on experience with the systems, data, analytics, and automation capabilities that support operations across PCO. Potential placements may include Software Development & Automation, Data Engineering & Data Products, Business Intelligence & Reporting, Application Support & Technology Enablement, Operational Resilience & Systems Monitoring, Fraud Data Science & Analytics, Workforce Management Analytics, and Control Monitoring & Data Testing.

What will you do?

Depending on your placement, you may:

  • Support client and internal requests accurately and timely, delivering excellent service aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Process work volumes proactively while adapting to changing priorities and meeting Client Service Commitment timelines.
  • Exercise due diligence by following operational risk policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
  • Take ownership at first point of contact, resolving issues where possible and escalating per established protocols.
  • Utilize RBC systems to ensure quality, accuracy, and completion of incoming and outgoing requests.
  • Support operational improvements, process documentation, and risk/compliance activities.
  • Build or enhance automation scripts, dashboards, data pipelines, and applications; analyze datasets to translate findings into actionable insights.
  • Collaborate with technology and business partners to troubleshoot issues, identify root causes, and deliver data-driven, scalable solutions.
  • Support strategic projects and initiatives as prioritized and defined by the broader leadership team

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program (technical placements require Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, IT, or related discipline).
  • Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with ability to learn new systems quickly and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or equivalent tools; technical placements require Excel and experience with at least one programming or query language (SQL, Python, Java, .NET, VBA).
  • Ability to work effectively in an on-site, team-oriented environment with occasional remote work as required.
  • Available to work 7.5-hour days, Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with hours varying by business requirements and team schedules.

Nice-to-have:

Depending on your placement:

  • Interest in operations, service delivery, financial services, risk management, or process improvement.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau), or documentation tools.
  • Experience with automation tools (UiPath, Power Automate), databases, data engineering concepts, or cloud technologies.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex technical insights to non-technical stakeholders; bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
